The Airship is a massive flying ship, part of the plan to take over San Francisco. It is the final boss of the game.
Structure
The Airship is very large, spanning the entire lake. From this, it can be gathered it is the size of a small warship, such as a destroyer. Its general appearance is that of a naval ship, although it has an elliptical shape unlike that of any ships. Its deck is flat like an aircraft carrier and has several elevators like an aircraft carrier would use to lift planes, although in this case, they are used for ground vehicles and troops. This would make it a flying troop transport/ assault ship. It flies via large engines that give off a blue glow, which is seemingly some sort of advanced engine type, but their exact mechanism is unknown. The Airship is very heavily armed and armored, with armor that is so tough that Jason needs to use what would appear to be some sort of tactical nuclear missiles to destroy it (The in-game boss tip that appears near the health bar states that it is so strong it nothing short of a nuclear blast can damage it). It is armed with multiple naval guns, it is unclear if it has any other armament. As the ship is only shown up close briefly and from the outside, nothing is known about its interior.
Story
The airship is a major part of the Progressive Restoration's plan to take over San Francisco. It is hidden in a lake for the majority of the game and can be seen before the game's ending if the Player swims to the bottom of the lake, although it is not clear what it is since only the top portion is visible. At the end of the game, it is launched and is fought. After Jason hits it with three nuclear missiles, it crashes into the nearby forest and explodes, thwarting the invasion.
Combat
The Airship is never truly "fought" despite being the final boss. The main threat is the soldiers and vehicles in the area, as most bosses in the game spawn during the fight. It must be destroyed by first pressing the control panels on the missile silos, then aiming the missiles at the airship using the targeting device. After being hit, the airship will destroy that missile silo with its cannons, forcing the player to move to another. It takes 3 missile hits to destroy the airship and there are 3 silos, so the player has to use every one.
Trivia
- Despite being an important part of the Restoration's plan, the ship is poorly armed and equipped by modern standards. It appears to have nothing but large naval guns, seemingly lacking anti air armament, missiles, or any aircraft (other than perhaps helicopters)
- While this could be said to be because it is a more of a troop transport that can provide artillery support, it also doesn't appear to have any method for troops to disembark, which makes it unclear what it is even supposed to do when it invades San Francisco
